The sixth edition of the Gulf Mathematics Olympiad (GMO) and the second edition of the Gulf Physics Olympiad (GPhO) organized by the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) kick off in Riyadh with the participation of 10 students of the Ministry of Education. The GMO and GPHO aim at adapting a suitable environment to raise the level of scientific competition in mathematics and physics among the students of the ABEGS member states. Moreover, these competitions tend to develop the students’ talents for the scientific subjects and allow them to go through different experiences from those they undergo at schools.
The MOE’s students compete with their counterparties from the other GCC countries to answer four untraditional and deepened questions that assess their higher thinking mathematical levels; algebra, geometry, digits theory and combinations of digits.
In Physics the students will undergo both theoretical test which assesses the students’ knowledge of the various fields of physics and practical test that includes performing two experiments and inferring accurate and scientific measurements under the supervision of an Arab and international specialized team in mathematics and physics.
On the margin of the Olympiad, the ABEGS organizes roundtable discussions and workshops regarding the questions selection and assessment mechanism with an eye on how difficult, deep and suitable for the students’ levels these questions are.
The winners will have gold, silver and bronze medals and certificates of appreciation in accordance with their degrees of excellence. The students and the supervisors will have opportunity to visit different sites in Riyadh.
