His Excellency Hussein bin Ibrahim al Hammadi,
Minister of Education, discussed with a delegation from the “Emirates Safer Internet
Society” E-SAFE at the Office of the Ministry in Abu Dhabi, methods for keeping
children safe from the risks of accessing the virtual world. This can be done
through providing internet safety to this category, that would ensure protecting
children against the high risks of the Internet, which can lead to serious dangers
that threaten the children’s safety and affect their psychological and mental status.
During the visit, the E-SAFE delegation
reviewed a number of preventive initiatives and educational projects that were developed
by the Society for the purpose of protecting children from the unsafe use of
the Internet. Such initiatives require coordination with the concerned bodies, especially
the Ministry of Education in order to educate students about the dangers of the
Internet and how to use it safely.
His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Al Mehyas, President
of E-SAFE, said that the visit was aimed at informing His Excellency Hussein al
Hammadi about the Society’s awareness initiatives. Such initiatives aim at spreading
safer e-culture awareness among students in order to protect them from dangers
of addiction to electronic games. They also aim at educating students about the
health, psychological and behavioral damages of cybercrimes, in order to promote their
electronic citizenship in a scientific and systematic manner, in line with UAE
leadership vision, which seeks to provide a safer internet environment for children.
Dr. Najla Al Naqbi, Vice President of E-SAFE
Board of Directors, provided an overview of the Society’s vision, goals and
initiatives, and ways for achieving constructive cooperation with the concerned
authorities in the country to achieve a safe electronic environment for
children.
Engineer Adel Al Hashemi, Member of the Board
of Directors and Managing Director, praised the Ministry of Education efforts
to provide curricula that enhance the students’ awareness and security
culture, which are aimed to ensure a secure electronic future for UAE children.
He also commended the Ministry’s role in raising awareness about the importance
of constructive communication between students and their parents, which aims at
avoiding any problems that students may encounter during their use of the internet.
