The UAE’s Ministry of Education (MoE) has
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Korea’s Ministry of
Trade, Industry and Energy to enhance cooperation between the two countries in
the educational fields related to microelectronics and semiconductors, in order
to promote the development of the educational system in the UAE in a way that
makes the country a leader in this field and enables it to cope with all the
rapid developments in the fields of science and technology.
This MoU comes within the framework of the
official visit by South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in to the UAE to promote
bilateral relations between the two countries in several vital areas, including
the exchange of expertise in the education, science and technology sectors.
The MoU was signed by H.E. Hussain Al-Hammadi,
UAE’s Minister of Education, and H.E. Paik Ungyu, S. Korea’s Minister of Trade,
Industry and Energy, with H.E. Dr. Mohammad Al-Mualla,
the Undersecretary for Higher Education Academic Affairs and
H.E. Dr. Samer Al-Samahi, Assistant Undersecretary for Planning and
Development, attending the signing ceremony.
H.E. Al-Hammadi commented that the MoU stems
from the Ministry of Education’s keenness to cooperate with the best
international science and technology destinations, and South Korea is one of
the most important exporters of microelectronics and semiconductors worldwide.
Hence, the UAE’s MoE is keen on cooperating with S. Korea in a way that serves
the MoE’s strategy and mission represented in preparing generations equipped
with the tools of their time to be able to move to the age of knowledge economy
in accordance with well-thought-out frameworks that enable our national cadres
to shape up their future in light of the boom witnessed by the education and
labor sectors.
As per the MoU, there will be a student
exchange program at selected universities in S. Korea and the UAE that will
enable students to transfer their credit hours in microelectronics and
semiconductors subjects and provide lectures and training on basic concepts and
processes related to this field at Korean laboratories and research institutions
during school and university breaks. Moreover, the program will provide
hands-on training opportunities in the fields of microelectronics and
semiconductors for UAE students at research companies and centers in S. Korea.
