In
cooperation with the Youth Council, the Ministry of Education organized a
seminar for its students titled “Healthy Life Style” at Fatimah Al Zahra
School, in the presence of HE Dr. Amna Al-Dahhak Al-Shamsi, Assistant
Undersecretary of Welfare and Activities Section and representatives from the
Ministry of Health and Sharjah Sports Council and a number of students’ parents
and guardians.
The seminar comes within the
initiative of “Youth Seminars” which is one initiative of “UAE Youth
Initiatives” approved by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, aiming to be
an interactive platform for discussing salient issues of concern to youths. It
is organized periodically at different places.
The seminar which was attended by 30
students reviewed topics relating to health, nutrition and physical activity.
Discussion tackled the student’s aspirations and challenges in a constructive
manner aiming at devising practical solutions and innovative ideas and
effective health policies.
The seminar consisted of three axes: physical activity,
health education and nutrition and the ways to enhancing them and integrating
them into daily life of the students. HE DR Amna Al Dahhak expounded a dimension
of UAE Vision 2021 relating to the happiness of the community members as part
of the principle “United in Prosperity” which deals with public health. Dr Amna
also mentioned some statistics pointing to the status of the students’ health
and she urged students to adopt an integrated and balanced diet system. She
drew attention to the fact that healthy lifestyles include eating healthy food,
moving away from laziness, sluggishness and reducing psychological stress, as
well as moving away from unhealthy behaviors like excessive use of televisions,
mobile phones and tablets which contributes to the increase in idle rates in
societies and there is an urgent need for balance in their use.
HE commended the ideas proposed by the students aiming to
enhancing healthy life style pointing out that the Ministry works continuously
to learn about students’ ideas and opinions in different subjects that directly
touch on their well-being, stressing that the seminar has managed to identify
their attitudes towards the development of sports activities which closely
connected with their health behavior. On their part, the participants proposed
several ideas to stimulate students to take part in sports activities in
addition to diversify the sports types to meet the desires of the students. One
of the suggestions was to establish a sports center in each emirate to promote
practicing sports activities and adopt a healthy life style.
