The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced that it has
expanded the segment of students targeted in the ‘Elite Stream’ by launching it
in 40 new schools, starting from January 2020 in a move aimed at accepting 2,500
fifth graders for the first time, according to H.E. Hussain Al Hammadi,
Minister of Education.
Al Hammadi affirmed that since its inception, the ‘Elite
Stream’ attracted 12,500 students from 102 schools all over the UAE after the
stream had been decided to be implemented in the said 40 schools.
The stream targeted 1,000 male and female students in its
trial year and was limited to the seventh graders only. After achieving a
dazzling success in the first trial year, the stream was expanded in its second
stage to include grade 6 students to grade 11 students.
Fifth graders have currently joined the stream, which is
scheduled to be expanded to include 12th graders by the beginning of
the next academic year 2020-2021. This will be based on a well thought out plan
aimed at attracting students who excel in mathematics and science and giving
them an opportunity to enter the world of excellence and uniqueness by
providing them with the knowledge, science and advanced skills in scientific
fields.
