His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, opened today the ninth session of Sharjah Children's Reading Festival, which will be held at the Expo Center Sharjah and will continue until April 29 under the slogan "Discover Beyond".
The opening ceremony was attended by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, Shaikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Founder and CEO of Kalimat Group, H.E. Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education and H.E. Jameela bint Salem Musabah Al Muhairi, Minister of Bin for Public Education, as well as senior Bin officials, representatives of regional and international organizations and a number of writers and authors.
His Highness toured the halls of the festival and visited the various stands of local, Arab and international publishing houses as well as the stands of some cultural and educational institutions and bodies, where His Highness reviewed its valuable publications to the visitors and children in particular, in addition to reviewing the activities and events organized by these entities in the Festival, along with meeting the officials of these stands who explained their publications and activities to His Highness.
As part of his tour, the Sharjah Ruler visited the hall of the Ministry of Education, where he got acquainted with the initiatives launched by the Ministry and the platforms that showcase their expertise in encouraging children to read and enhancing their skills in exploration and knowledge. The Ministry of Education has allocated a set of stands at the Festival to organize its participation, including ‘The Corner' initiative where a competition on writing, authorship and publishing for students is held and ‘Wahat Al Karama" stand, which exemplifies the Wahat
Al Karama memorial site in the capital of Abu Dhabi, as well as the other stands for activities and workshops such as the stand of "our characters, language, creations, readers and theatre", along with the cinema hall that offers a selection of movies, which depict the ideas and visions of creative children from around the world.
In this year, The Sharjah Children's Reading Festival extends on 2304 square meters and includes 2093 cultural, artistic, recreational and educational activities, as well as 123 exhibitors and 179 guests from around the world, who are distributed on various stands and events.
The Agenda of Children's Programs includes 1403 activities participated by 55 guests from 22 countries. The Agenda of the Cultural Events brings together more than 60 guests from 23 countries participating in more than 40 different events throughout the Festival's 11 days.
The Sharjah Children's Reading Festival celebrates, in the current session, the spirit of discovery through its "Discover Beyond" slogan, which is not limited to science, but includes every inspirational experience that is a source of discovery, including books and its endless spaces on unknown worlds that urge to search for answers to questions that revolve around the minds of children and adults through reading.
