The Ministry of Education (MoE) is participating in

which will kick off today under the theme ‘The World Reads from Sharjah’. The fair,
which will continue till November 14th, has attracted 1,024
publishers from 73 countries and is featuring 64 cultural panel seminars presented
by a group of Arab and foreign thinkers and specialists.
The MoE is participating in the fair with a platform
through which it will review several previously launched qualitative
initiatives, which are in line with the nature of education in the current
stage. These include ‘smart education as a path to innovation and advancement’,
which aims at encouraging more students and parents to use smart learning
portals in order to bring education in the UAE to a higher level and help the
graduation of an innovative and advanced generation armed by the 21st
century skills. The platform will also familiarize the public with the ‘Founding
Leader Award’, which seeks to consolidate the thought and vision of the late
Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may Allah rest his soul.
In addition, the platform will review the
participation of the Emirati School students in the Arab Reading Challenge with
the aim of encouraging reading among students. It will also review the ‘Fifty’s
Writers Program’ to support and foster students in the field of story writing in
co-operation with the National Archives and UAE cultural establishments.
The SIBF is an ideal opportunity for students to
enhance their cognitive skills and adopt reading as a sustainable approach by
taking advantage of the cultural activities offered by the fair that simulate all
cultures, sciences and knowledge, said H.E. Dr. Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi,
Assistant Undersecretary for the Care and Activities Sector.
Al Shamsi explained that the fair is an important cognitive
station and a high-quality cultural event hosted by the ‘smiling emirate’,
thanks to the support and patronage of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed
Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who is always keen on raising
intellectual and cognitive awareness among all members of society, particularly
students.
“Through our participation in the fair, we seek to
create and consolidate positive mental images among our students about reading
as well as its importance and effective role in expanding students’ cognitive perceptions,”
she added.
The platform features several dedicated activities
performed by students through the ‘Teams’ program based on the MoE’s keenness
on maintaining the safety of students, taking safety measures and following
social distancing rules.
Accordingly, students can remotely participate in the
artistic and literary shows organized by the MoE during the days of the fair
which vary between reading, poetry, singing, playing music and presenting
