The results of the
“Arab Reading Challenge,” launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid
Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, Dubai Ruler,
may Allah preserve him, in 2015, has revealed that student Mohammed Ali Al
Yamahi, (Grade 12 - Hamad Bin Abdullah Al Sharqi School in Fujairah), has won
the title of the sixth edition. It is worth mentioning that 354,846 students
from 689 schools have participated in the challenge, under the supervision of
1,378 supervisors.
At the level of the UAE schools, the Al-Nouf School of
the Sharjah Educational Zone came first. As for the Distinguished Supervisor Award,
it has been awarded to Mona Al Hammadi, from Khor Fakkan Educational Zone.
The announcements were made in a ceremony held at the
Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai. Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri, Minister of
State for Public Education and Advanced Technology and Chairwoman of the
Emirates Schools Establishment, and Sarah Al Nuaimi, Director of MBRGI, which
organized the challenge, and a number of the MoE’s leadership, education staff,
teachers, parents, and media personalities attended the ceremony.
Sarah Al Amiri said that the UAE’s leadership made education a
priority over the past 50 years and regarded it a crucial pillar in its vision
for the coming decades. She added that the wise leadership ordered that education
kept pace with future technological needs and knowledges, while strengthening
the link with the country’s heritage and culture to consolidate its development
and position globally.
Potentials enhancement
She added by saying, “Students are at the heart of the UAE’s
education system. We are committed to fostering a supportive educational environment
that enhances their abilities, nurtures their curiosity and learning, and
sharpens their future skills. The Arab Reading Challenge is an innovative
educational initiative which leverages technology and combines smart and
traditional teaching tools to help students develop.”
She
also said, “We are proud of the
results the UAE students have achieved and we look forward to more educational
and cognitive achievements that contribute to preparing the students for the
future. The unique thing about the reading challenge is that it adopts advanced
technology solutions and integrates smart tools with traditional education
methods to serve students and develop their experiences.”
She added, “We would
like to thank His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for adopting
Arab culture and civilization and reviving them. We would also like to thank
all the participants and
organizers of this challenge and schools’ principals, staff, teachers, and
supervisors for their support to the challenge and contribution to promoting
the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid to make it a motivator
for Arab and local generations. We want them to encourage their children to
read and increase their passion for the Arabic language.”
Top list
The results have
revealed that 10 contestants have reached the final qualifiers in the UAE. The jury chose one of them to be the champion of this
year's challenge. The top ten list included Mohammed Al
Hammadi (Grade 11 - Al Adhwa Private School in Al Ain) and Ahmed Al Hammadi
(Grade 12 - Institute of Applied Technology in Ajman).
The list also included Aisha Al Souqi
(Grade 10 - Fatima Al-Zahraa School in Sharjah), Mohammad Al-Mansoori (Grade 12
- Applied Technology High School (ATHS) in Ras Al Khaimah), Aisha Al-Zahmi (Grade
10 - Merbah Secondary School in Fujairah), Rawda Al-Kaabi (Grade 4- Al-Shaheen
School in Al-Ain), Fatima Saleh (Grade 11 - MEreya Al-Qebteya School in Dubai), Mohammad Al-Kfoury (Grade 9 - Al-Amir School for
Secondary Education in Umm Al Quwain), and Abdullah Ramadan (Grade 11 - Bida Al
Mutawa School of the Al Dhafra Educational Directorate).
2071 objectives
For her part, Sarah Al Nuaimi said that the Arab Reading Challenge
supported Emirati generations that sought to achieve the objectives of the UAE
Centennial 2071 Plan. She added, “Encouraging reading is the best investment we
can make in future generations as it enables them to gain the necessary skills
and knowledge to meet rapid changes in a world that is full of challenges. The
current and future generations will continue the UAE’s journey to becoming the
best country in the world by its centennial in 2071."
She said, "This year's edition of
the Arab Reading Challenge has been exceptional in all areas and the largest
and most influential yet. We understand that investing in reading is an
investment in the future, since it opens minds, broadens horizons, boosts
curiosity, and enhances values and excellence. That is why reading comes at the
heart of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice
President, Prime Minister, Dubai Ruler, as H.H. believes it will enhance the
role our region has to play in the future of humanity and will restore civilization."
knowledge convoys
Dr. Amna Al Dahak Al
Shamsi, MoE’s Undersecretary for Activities and Care Sector, said that the Arab
Reading Challenge enriched the convoys of knowledge, leadership, culture, and
innovation and inspired the future generations. She added that the aim was to
celebrate a generation that boosted the culture of reading and that exactly was
the wish of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum when he
launched this challenge.
She added, “We congratulate the winner
of the challenge, student Mohammed Al Yamahi, the top ten, and all the Emirati
schools’ students who participated in this year’s edition. I would also like to
thank Al Nouf School and Mona Shaheen, the Emirate of Sharjah’s Coordinator,
for wining the title of the Distinguished School and the Distinguished
Supervisor in the sixth edition of the challenge.”
