· A group of students in grades 9 through 12 do not fulfill their potential through the curriculum currently on offer and consequently leave in grade 12 without the needed experiences, skills and qualifications.
· To meet the needs of these students more effectively and appropriately in the 21st century, Ministry of Education have developed a curriculum which is applied in nature and will ensure outcomes for students which will facilitate their further progress and development in either tertiary education or the world of work.
· Further, it supports the Emirati school model of the “Developed UAE School” which focuses on developing students’ skills and their ability to communicate and innovate, and in promoting a sense of commitment to the nation. This, while maintaining a balance between modern values and the UAE’s humanitarian heritage.
Group A subjects are aligned to the general stream to allow the ability of students to move between the streams without being unduly penalised academically. This movement will only be available at the end of the academic year in grades 9 and 10. From grade 11, students are locked into the Professional Stream.
Grade 9 – Students study the core curriculum and introductory courses from the available electives in the specialised skills. In this way, students are given tasters of the electives to better inform their elective choices as they progress into grade 10.
Grade 10 – Students continue with the core curriculum, and now undertake studies in their chosen elective. At grade 10, elective studies are benchmarked against QF Emirates level 3. It is anticipated that students will be able to undertake accredited units at level 3 from NQA qualifications and where possible, delivered in partnership with ADVETI. At this point, a student may elect to change their elective choice in consultation with parents and school administration.
Grades 11 and 12 – Students continue with the core curriculum and their chosen elective. In grades 11 and 12, elective studies will be benchmarked against QF Emirates level 4 and drawn from NQA qualifications and delivered in partnership with partner institutions such as ADVETI.
